Shine!

A poem about inclusion

Written by one of our very own wildlife officers.

About the poet

Not mocked, not disgraced,
Not feeling out of place,
Then my passion for animals shines!

A place of kindness and pride,
My lesbian pride!
Without censure or chide,
Then my passion for animals shines!

A me for the now鈥
Finding courage to be me!
A me who is free!
Then my passion for animals shines!

Goodbye to the past!
Say hi! to my dyslexia.
Don鈥檛 forget my dyspraxia!
Then my passion for animals shines!

A standard to follow, measures not hollow.
Words meaning more,
But actions are core!
And my passion for animals shines!

Or sameness鈥hat gnawing,
Loudly beating in the pit of me.
Never letting me be me,
And I sadly do, unseen鈥
What I have always sadly done.

But it鈥檚 time to do better,
To cast off the fetters.
Because only then鈥
Will my passion for animals shine!
